Modernising energy data access competition selects Electron to build the foundation for future energy markets

Return

Electron is excited to have been selected as one of the winners of InnovateUK’s Modernising Energy Data Access (MEDA) competition to further our mission in making distributed energy systems more cost and carbon efficient.

We believe that optimising distributed systems is a many-player game, and best achieved by enabling hundreds of market operators to launch thousands of service specific marketplaces that engage millions of clean, flexible energy assets. This can only be efficiently achieved through a decentralised, open-source approach to data sharing and data ownership.

This win allows us to advance our track record of engagement- bottom up- with some pioneering service providers and technology aggregation platform providers to design the open-source data sharing solutions that they need expose, discover and participate in new efficiency opportunities.

MEDA is a multi-stage, knock-out competition.

In this first phase, Electron will be developing and testing a Common Data Architecture to enable secure and permissioned sharing of private asset data through an open-source framework. We will be drawing on previous experience in developing distributed network asset registers, such as in Project RecorDER, and bringing distributed energy assets into new markets, such as in Project TraDER.

Central to our plan, we will be undertaking a series of structured interviews and workshops with innovators and service providers looking to deliver value and access new markets through our secure, open-source, data-linking architecture. We hope to expand this in later stages to invite other interested stakeholders to our second distributed energy hackathon.

To register interest for either phase, or simply share your needs or vision for new data-enabled service offerings, please get in touch at info@electron.org.uk We’d love to hear from you!
