SSEN plans to unleash greater volume and value from flexibility across its networks – with an ambitious target of 5GW of flexibility procurement by 2028. To facilitate this growth, SSEN turned to ElectronConnect, to streamline access for flexibility service providers (FSPs) through a user-friendly interface across diverse time-frames.
To hit its targets, SSEN needed to increase the volume and frequency of its procurement of flexibility services to work alongside its investment in grid upgrades.
That means operating procurement at multiple timeframes to help maximise the number of FSPs that can access its markets and aims to increase market liquidity. However, its processes were manual, which was limiting its ability to do so.
The decision to partner with Electron stemmed from SSEN’s desire for a solution that aligns with their vision for a flexible and collaborative energy market.
ElectronConnect provides an end-to-end procurement and contract management process, to help SSEN hit its procurement targets. The configurable market platform offers compliance and alignment with industry standards – making it easier for FSPs to access those markets quickly.
ElectronConnect will also help coordinate more markets for SSEN across different timeframes, long and short-term, with integrated near real-time trading to bring flexibility closer to system and flexibility provider needs.
