We are thrilled to have received the Project of the Year award for 2020 for Project TraDER for delivering an outstanding project in renewable energy, energy storage and low carbon transport infrastructure. Project TraDER helps renewable generators avoid being turned off by incentivising local flexible assets to absorb their excess power. It also brings real-time, local price signals to life.
The British Renewable Energy Awards is the most prestigious of UK’s awards for companies and individuals who have achieved something amazing in renewables or cleantech in the past year- and the Project of the Year award is a highly contested category!
A massive thank you to SSEN, Kaluza and Community Energy Scotland for their work on bringing traded markets to Orkney, and to our other project partners CGI, EDF Energy, Elexon, Energy Systems Catapult, and National Grid ESO for their invaluable input on how these local markets scale and coordinate with other markets. It’s been an absolute pleasure working with these partners, and truly a feat to have brought this vision to life despite the unforeseen conditions of COVID-19.
The TraDER platform has been operational on the Orkney islands since March 2020 in which it has seen over 16,000 trades.
The next step for Project TraDER, for Spring 2021, is to integrate with ESO price signals, allowing Orcadian assets to bid into local and national markets and maximise the value of their clean technologies.
