Full-time (hybrid, remote, and office-based working) – HQ in London.

Overview:

Achieving net-zero requires effective flexibility markets (in which consumers are paid to use more or less power at the right time and location), working at scale. Effective flexibility markets mean lower energy prices for consumers, faster connection of new clean energy generating assets, more efficient use of these assets, and faster adoption of other clean energy technologies such as electric vehicles, electric heating and battery storage.

Yet to date flexibility markets have failed to launch and scale. Because of this:

  • Customers are paying higher energy bills in support of old fossil fuel-burning power stations;
  • more and more clean energy is wasted each year (an astonishing £2 billion in 2022 vs £500 million in 2019);
  • new clean energy assets are stuck in ten-year grid connection queues because of ageing infrastructure designed for the world of fossil fuels; and
  • essential clean energy technologies like battery storage are not scaling as fast as they need to be.

Without effective flexibility markets it will not be possible to deliver a future of affordable, available, clean energy for all.

At a time when we are simultaneously experiencing a climate crisis, a cost-of-living crisis and an energy crisis, delays to introducing and scaling market solutions are unacceptable.

Electron has a technology centric scalable solution. Electron offers customers the ability to create, launch and operate flexibility markets quickly and efficiently using ElectronConnect, a fully configurable flexibility market platform.

Electron’s Vision is to Unleash renewable abundance by connecting millions of distributed resources to thousands of coordinated markets.

We’ll do this by helping network utilities (the companies that own and operate the local grids) and municipal suppliers adopt and scale flexibility markets to manage grid congestion, improve connection rates and lower bills.

The role

In September, Electron announced the completion of our most recent fundraise here. We are now growing our team and are looking for a fast-learning, mid to senior developer to work on our energy trading platform.

The technology we use is an Angular on the frontend, with the backend using C#, .NET as well as SQL (Postgres) and no-SQL databases, all based in Azure cloud services.

The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of Angular framework, Web Apis, Relational Databases, no-SQL Databases, event-based architecture and queues. Knowledge of Azure EventHub, or Kafka will be valuable.

Nice to have knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, Azure EventHub, Kafka, Helm and tools such as Snyk would be useful.

The successful candidate will comply with Electron’s information security management system and applicable legislation and regulations.

How we work

We are a tight-knit team, who look to pair programmes whenever we can. Using Agile process to manage work in 2-week sprints. Working together as a team to be constantly trying to get work across our board, releasing to production early and often. Making full use of automated testing to release allow ownership of the full code release cycle.

Our Culture & Values

We offer a flexible remote working environment requiring visits to our London office once a month for team activities, food and drinks. We welcome all candidates with a passion to make a positive impact on climate change, the right to work in the UK, strong engineering skills and an enthusiasm to learn and grow, who are comfortable with remote team collaboration, and can come to London once a month, to apply providing their full CV and examples of their recent work.

Cultural fit is important to us. Here’s what it’s like to work at Electron:

  • We care fiercely: for each other; for the climate; for good solutions and great outcomes.
  • We have grit: transitions of such scale can be slow and hard. We bring courage, perseverance, and good humour.
  • We blaze trails: we have a vision for a better energy future and are unafraid to both lead and challenge.
  • We empathise to empower: each other, our customers, and our community. Celebrate diversity, seek to understand and improve together.
