Who we are

Building the foundations for an affordable, reliable, and flexible energy system

Electron gives utilities the confidence to use low cost, low carbon distributed energy effectively as part of everyday grid operations.

About Electron

Electron aims to unlock energy abundance by helping utilities deliver affordable and reliable grid capacity from millions of flexible DERs.

DERs are already widespread, low cost, and inherently low carbon. Their potential to support the grid continues to grow. Yet realising that potential requires clear evidence of where flexibility works best and delivers the most value.

Electron connects grid-aware analytics with coordinated flexibility market activity to help utilities see, prove, and activate the value of DERs. This allows DER flexibility to move from isolated programs into a dependable part of utility planning, operations, and investment decisions.

Trusted by leading utilities worldwide and holding more than 50% market share in the UK, Electron is delivering the digital foundations for a proof-led, flexible energy system.

The challenge: Delivering an affordable and reliable grid as the system evolves

By 2035, more than 90% of power supply across the UK, EU, and North America will come from variable and intermittent generation, such as wind and solar.

As new sources of generation and demand connect to electricity networks, grids are becoming more dynamic and complex. This is putting pressure on affordability and reliability at a time when expectations on the energy system continue to rise.

Electricity networks were not originally designed to plan around millions of distributed assets. As flexibility has grown, responsibility for understanding, using, and valuing it has been spread across utility planning, operations, and customer programs, often supported by different data sources and tools.

As a result, utilities can struggle to decide and prove where flexibility will deliver the greatest system benefit, and where traditional infrastructure upgrades remain the right answer.

This can lead to higher long-term costs, even when lower-cost alternatives exist. The challenge is ensuring every dollar spent delivers the maximum value for the customers who ultimately pay for it.

How Electron meets the challenge

We believe that meeting today’s grid challenges starts with better coordination across data, teams, and markets, and a clearer view of where distributed energy can be relied on. Electron gives utilities the visibility and confidence to plan and deliver that reliable, affordable grid capacity.
We enable…

Who we are

Electron is built around a shared belief in better system outcomes, backed by people who have worked across the energy value chain.

Our vision

Electron aims to help enable an energy system everyone can rely on, where decisions about DERs deliver long-term affordability and grid resilience.

Our mission

To build the digital foundation that brings visibility, coordination, and accountability to how distributed energy resources are planned, coordinated, and relied on across the grid.

Our team

Electron began operating in 2015 and is headquartered in London, with a team grounded in hands-on utility and energy market experience.

In 2025, we expanded into the USA through the acquisition of data-analytics company Rhythmos, enhancing our distributed energy resource detection capabilities and supporting a broader set of use cases for Electron. Our people have worked across utilities, consultancies, battery operators, retail energy companies, and more – combining deep industry insight with global reach.
